Ninja Update

Tuesday June 03, 2008 at 01:03 AM (EDT) by Cyberstorm

Notice: WALL OF TEXT. You have been warned.

Ninja has been going really good! It gets party invites fast (much faster than Scholar was), and the parties I get are of much higher quality too. I keep hate really well with my High Breath Mantle, and there have been very few deaths since I started at level 37 (enough I can probably count on one hand).

I’ll do some past news first! I hit 46 and tossed my two AF weapons. They were nice while they lasted (6 whole levels), but sadly it was time for me to get something that would let me hit for more than single digit numbers…

Yesterday it hit level 51. :D

Ninja level 51

And now that I was AF level, it was time to get it over and done with. AF is something I usually dread doing, as for the most party, key drop rates are terrible, and then once you do get one (after sometimes hours of farming them), there is almost always competition trying to find and open a coffer. However, Ninja AF went really well…

First up were the pants! The quest was simple enough, just talk to a few NPCs then go take a boat ride at night and kill some lame NM. The only thing I was worried about was some idiot being on the boat who would beat me to getting to the top and kill it, thus making me redo the boat ride. Luckily, there were only two other people on the boat, and they were both fish bots (or what looked like fish bots). The NM is overly weak, almost as weak as the two spider NMs in the desert for AF1.

Obtained: Ninja Hakama

Next up, I decided to do AF3, which is the body. This quest is a bit lengthier than the AF2 quest. Luckily, this is one of the few AF3s I felt comfortable soloing. Usually the AF3 monster is too tough for me to want to even try to solo, but the Ninja AF3 monster is actually 3 monsters, thus making the 3 monsters combined as strong as 1 monster. The trick comes from how you only really have to kill one NM to get the key item, as with many other force pop multi-NMs. All I did was pop the 3 monsters, zone them, come back out and claim one and just drag it around in circles until the other two despawned. Once they were gone, it was a pretty simple fight (I was fighting the monk), and luckily bind/gravity weren’t resisted at all, so it’s 2 hour never touched me. All that was left after that was to get a Kuftal Coffer Key and pop it, which was really easy (key dropped after 3-4 crabs, and the coffer was close by).

Obtained: Ninja Chainmail

After the body, it was time for the awesome feet! I got lucky with the key drop, as it only took me about 30-45 minutes for it to drop. One of my friends, Pururunnyan, said it took him about 10 hours to get his key when he was doing Ninja AF. I would have expected that from somewhere like Castle Zvahl or Castle Oztroja, as those keys suck. Also I was the only one killing coffer key monsters and looking for the coffer, so it was a quick find and open!

Obtained: Ninja Kyahan

Next down the line, the hands! Simple coffer in Ifrit’s Cauldron, one of the my most hated zones. Rilian and Pururunnyan helped me get the key after we helped Pururunnyan get his Wyvern Skull for Opo-opo Crown quest, so all I had to do was find and pop the coffer, then go up to Castle Zvahl and kill the Dark Spark.

Obtained: Ninja Tekko

And finally on the list, one of the worst pieces of AF for Ninja, the head! Another very easy coffer, this time from The Boyada Tree. Coffer key dropped after about 10 crabs, and when I zoned back into the zone on Ninja, I was the only one in the whole zone, so the coffer was up and ready for me to pop. :3

Obtained: Ninja Hatsuburi

Thus completing my 12th full set of Artifact Armor!

Ninja's Garb Claim Slip

In Sky news, I have gotten two new pieces! One was a joke item I lotted just because it sucks and it went free lot, and one I spent 2 points on. The joke item being Skofnung. I already have a Subduer, which is a pretty good end-game Great Sword (apart from Perdu), and no one else wanted it so I thought “why the hell not” and got it. :3

Obtained: Skofnung

The two points were spent on one of the better MAB pieces for hands, the Abjuration for Zenith Mitts!

Obtained: Aquarian Abjuration: Hands

Obtained: Cursed Mitts

Obtained: Zenith Mitts

And finally, in my Nyzul static, we finally beat our first 100 floor! Of course our leader, Rilian, used his fireflies before the last boss died so that the information wouldn’t be reset. Askar Head and the Bard Dagger (Dancing Dagger) dropped. Myraanda got the head, and I got the dagger!

Obtained: Dancing Dagger

Too bad a better weapon didn’t drop, like one that I will probably use. Bard doesn’t really have that good of a dagger skill, and plus as a bard I really like my staves for Elegy and Lullaby, so I really don’t see me meleeing in a merit party, or any party really. Maybe SE will be smart, and just add some useful stats to the dagger that would make it better than using staves.

…But don’t count on it…

Ninjar

Friday May 23, 2008 at 07:24 PM (EDT) by Cyberstorm

Now here’s a job I thought I’d never play past level 37, Ninja!

Ninja, so far, hasn’t been as expensive as I thought it would be. Apart from 3 of the Ni elemental spells, and hojo tools, the cost isn’t that bad. Plus, the job is pretty fun once you get good at counting shadows… Levels 37-44 (current) hasn’t bee that bad so far. Some parties sucked, such has a 42 whm with no haste, and a 38 whm with no erase, but for the most part the parties have been good.

I got 44 yesterday :D

AF1 for Ninja is ridiculously easy, the two spiders are very underpowered when compared to other AF1 monsters.. But at least you get two weapons :3

Zushio

Anju

Currently I only use the Zushio as my main hand, and offhand the Nikkariaoe for the spell interruption rate down 25%, not that it’s even done anything. :( Hopefully I’ll have enough money to get this job to 75, maybe if I get a good prize from the Moogle lottery.

Adventures in Sky

Monday May 12, 2008 at 12:17 AM (EDT) by Cyberstorm

Today my sky/sea linkshell decided to do sky gods for the first time. Due to time restrictions, we only were able to fit in two gods, Byakko and Seiryu.

Seiryu’s drops were the best of the two. Got two Zenith Pant’s drops and the lolsword.

Seiryu's Drops

I got the lolsword so I can pretend I have a Ridill. :D

Seiryu's Sword

Byakko had shit drops sadly. One day I’ll get that damn Haidate!! :(

Byakko's Drops

It feels good to do sky again, seeing as how the last time I did anything sky related was back in early 2006

むむむ…

Sunday May 11, 2008 at 12:14 PM (EDT) by Cyberstorm

Interesting note: {Hmmm.} in the auto-translator shows up as {むむむ。} (mumumu) in the Japanese client. The mumumu part made me lol…

…Anyway…

I finally finished my Elemental Magic skill merits… Only having Black Mage at level 75 forever.

Elemental Skill modification level 8

And now that Elemental Magic is done, it’s time to start doing Enfeebling Magic. I got it to level 2 before I started hating merit parties again.

Enfeebling Skill modification level 2

Sea time! I got another new piece of gear from sea, an Astute Cape (from Ix’DRG)! This will be armor piece #129 that is ex in my collection.

Obtained: Vice of Aspersion

Obtained: Astute Cape

As of right now, I have two jobs that are close to 75 that I never level. One is Dark Knight, the other is Thief. What I’ll probably end up doing is using Thief in Campaign to keep my rank (which is about to delevel AGAIN! GRR), and maybe do the same on Dark Knight. Dark Knight’s invite rate is super poor sadly, which leaves me LFP for a good 4+ hours before I get a party invite.

However, I did get a good party not too long ago and I did hit level 69…

Dark Knight level 69

The last 5 levels will be good. At 70 I get O. hat and Fire Bombet, 72 I get Dusk Gloves, 73 I get Perdu Sickle, 75 I get Askar, Brutal Earring, and W. Turban. I’m sure there’s other things I’m forgetting about in that range, but it’ll be good. :3

in b4 winter break

Monday February 25, 2008 at 12:34 PM (EST) by Cyberstorm

Whoops, forgot to add this is my last entry…

Cyberstorm obtains a Parade Gorget.

I went 1/5 on that damn NM, with TH3. Also, he’s a bitch to solo at 71 THF without any evasion gear. He’s only really bad when he 2 hours and then double attacks, draining near 600 HP in one attack round.

Also, blog logo updated. I’m not sure if I like it though, may need some more work still…

Winter Break

Saturday February 23, 2008 at 03:05 PM (EST) by Cyberstorm

Last week was winter break, meaning I had the whole week off, and I didn’t update once (except to say that I added a new style).

So what has been going on? Not a whole lot.

Last Saturday (the 16th), I ranked up again in Campaign. Only two ranks left to go until I hit the top (for now)!

img_20080216_150646.png

DRK has stopped completely. Invites just suck. It takes a good 3-5 hours to get a party, and then it’s off to kill maybe 5 Imps before the party disbands. It took me from Friday to Wednesday to get one level.

img_20080220_170700.png

So Dark Knight may be 68 for a long time to come, which sucks since I liked it a lot… I even got a Perdu Sickle, which will be nice when I finally do level it to 73.

img_20080223_144026.png
img_20080217_212943.png

Before I got Dark Knight to 68, I went into two Besieges on Warrior and got my Scythe skill to 240 so I could get Spiral Hell.

Cyberstorm’s Scythe skill reaches level 240.

So I tele’d out to Kuftal and started working on breaking scythe. In the process, my parry leveled to 185. :D

Cyberstorm’s Parrying skill reaches level 185.

And after a few hours and some help, I got the WS, which, as it turns out, sucks a whole lot…

You learn the weapon skill “Spiral Hell”!

Maybe at level 72 when I can use my sea gorgets, it’ll be better… Maybe…

Last Wednesday, after my Dark Knight party disbanded, I got a party on my Red Mage. It was your standard RDM, BRD, WAR, WAR, DRK, MNK party on Colibri. Ended up getting 21,000 exp/hr and a total of 34415 exp. It was fun too, a little stressful at times, but no one died and we never lost the chain, so it was good. :p

Limit Chain 171! Cyberstorm get’s her 8th merit.

And it didn’t stop there :p, we killed one more after it.

img_20080220_235827.png

The last party I had that was like this was on July 31st, 2007. Only last time I was the Bard that was pulling, and we had two bards in that party.

So what did I end up spending those merits on? I decided to put them into Bard and Black Mage…

Finale and Minuet merits

Ice Potency reaches level 2 and 3.

Yesterday I spent some time doing the last two S.O.B. quests to get my Promise Badge. It’s been a really long time since I’ve done a quest, and I didn’t want to buy it (50,000G on the AH), so I sucked it up and quested it. The quest wasn’t so bad, the only thing that sucked was getting the coffer key (1/42 on it), and then getting the weed off of spiders in Kuftal (1/12-ish). Took me a good 4 hours or so, but it was worth it…

Promise Badge
img_20080222_145129.png

With that, I now have enough MND (4 more than I need actually) and Enhancing skill to have stoneskin’s potency capped on Black Mage. Seems like kind of a lame reason really, but the badge was free, and it means I can sell my Holy Phial (which I already have) for 10,000G. :p

So that’s all that’s happened this week. I’ll probably spend some more time meriting on Red Mage/Bard so I can finish off Ice Potency and work on my Elemental and Enfeebling magic merits…

Adventures in Sea and San d’Oria

Wednesday February 06, 2008 at 11:14 PM (EST) by Cyberstorm

So last monday, only about 7 people showed up for sea (we had over 18 show up on Saturday). So we went off to do the standard Ix’aerns with our small group, as with our low skill, we couldn’t do much else.

So we start off by trying to pop Ix’DRK, but without any luck.

So then we move to Ix’MNK, and after about an hour of sucking, we finally get to the ??? that spawns him. The fight goes mildly well, only a few deaths here and there (me being one of them, sadly). However, we finally got a cape drop.

img_20080205_000100.png

And so the bidding starts:

Me: 30 points

img_20080205_000147.png

It seemed we had mostly new members show up, and there were only two people who had over 30 points (which was the minimum bid for the cape). And as luck would have it, no one wanted the cape.

img_20080206_230517.png
img_20080205_034903.png

I also got my 4th sea gorget today, a Snow Gorget. I got it for Raging Rush, along with Guillotine, Cross Reaper and Spiral Hell.

img_20080206_231102.png
img_20080206_153342.png

And in other news, I’m finally Rank 10 all nations! Finished the San d’Oria missions this morning at around 4AM.

img_20080206_035642.png
img_20080206_035615.png

Now to switch back to Windurst once it’s no longer in 1st place, as I don’t want to spend 40,000G to transfer back.

Recap on the past Month

Friday February 01, 2008 at 07:29 PM (EST) by Cyberstorm

Well, the second semester of my college started up, so I haven’t really had as much time to play FFXI as I normally do. However, I have had plenty of time to update my blog.

But I’m lazy.

I was hoping to finish writing this by the end of January, but I looked at the calendar and saw that it was February already, so I guess I suck.

Since the last real update, I’ve gotten a few levels on not just Dark Knight, but Paladin too. I know I said I’d never level Paladin again, but what I really meant, was that I would never level Paladin again in an EXP party.

It took me about 5 days to go from level 70 Paladin to level 74 Paladin, only doing Campaign battles. Then school started and I stopped doing Campaign battles altogether, which seems to have stopped my Paladin dead in its tracks. I’ll eventually get back into doing them (so I don’t lose my rank), and my Paladin is only about 23,000 exp away from hitting 75.

Speaking of Campaign, I’ve gotten 4 ranks since the last update.

img_20080123_020908.png

As for the other job I was leveling, Dark Knight, that too has stopped pretty much dead in its tracks at level 64. Shortly before school started up again, the static with Rilian, Pururunnyan, and I broke, as we felt that with school, it would be better to party on our own. Sadly, Rilian’s college blocks the ports FFXI uses to play, leaving him unable to even get past the PlayOnline version check, leaving me without a bard.

Sea with JailersElite has been going pretty well. I managed to get my first real item from them (I’m not counting that Hope Staff, which everyone but me passed so it was auto-sorted to me), my Fortitude Axe! I see why Rilian likes his. With Virtue Stones in my ammo slot, the axe has a chance of hitting 1-4 times per attack round. Getting over 16 TP a hit can result in full TP in only 2 attack rounds.

img_20080119_232102.png

Of course, now that I have a good Great Axe (that was free), I needed to level my Great Axe skill to get a decent Weapon Skill, as Sturmwind wasn’t cutting it for me. So it was off to Kuftal Tunnel to go kill some Robber Crabs and get to 200 skill level for Raging Rush. However, Great Axe skillups weren’t the only thing I got that night. That’s right! Parry skillups. :3

img_20080120_171951.png

Of course, I also got Great Axe skillups. :p

img_20080120_235820.png

I’ve taken up another hobby in FFXI too. Noranda, Shiorichan, and I are getting rank 10 in all nations. We’ve already gotten rank 10 in Windy and Bastok, and we’re currently rank 7 in Sandy.

img_20080127_201949.png
img_20080127_201332.png

Hopefully I’ll get rank 10 next week sometime (Noranda has stuff to do this weekend so we’re on hold). Hopefully I’ll also update more often. :p All for now~

The “I can’t sleep” entry

Wednesday January 02, 2008 at 06:41 AM (EST) by Cyberstorm

So, on December 29th (day after last entry), my Dark Knight hit 45. At that point, Rilian, Pururunnyan, and I have been staticing everyday at 10 am.

Last night, my Dark Knight (along with Rilian’s bard and Pururunnyan’s ninja) hit 57. If it wasn’t for them, I would probably just be hitting level 50 now, so a big thanks to them!

img_20080101_233023.png

Hopefully today we’ll get 60-61 or higher, meaning my gear will finally not suck and that maybe I’ll be able to keep up with the other melees in the party.

I finished my Dark Knight AF yesterday too, making it my 10th full set of AF. :3

img_20080101_205233.png

In other news, I am extremely poor. On December 31st, I sold my only Sniper’s Ring for 320,000G. Which has since gone to new gear (namely Vassago’s Scythe). Sadly I only have 60,000G to my name, but it will hopefully be better soon when some stuff I have on the AH sells.

In campaign news, I just ranked up 10 minutes ago. :D
